Playing With Your Puppy

How To Bring The Absolute Best Out Of Your Puppy

It is incredibly easy to get carried away with puppy games without considering the fact that some of these games may not be desirable when the little pup grows up to be an adult dog. While these little guys are open to learning fun games and neat tricks, always consider whether or not these games are teaching your dog unwanted behaviors.

Dogs from just about every breed will be able to enjoy these basic games, such as fetching and retrieving. Do you have a sporting dog that you hope will go hunting with you in the future? Then he is the ideal candidate to train early the "give" and "drop it" commands, in addition to fetching. It is best to teach him these things now, when he is a puppy, or else the dog may not become the hunting companion that he should be.

Once the basics are taught to a puppy, feel free to move on to other training activities and fun games that allow you to bond with your pet, spend time together, and make your lives happier. Your puppy looks to you as the leader of the pack and welcomes your firm decision-making, training, and guidance. In time, as the dog matures, he will expect more advanced training sessions to enjoy with you.

In terms of guidance and supervision, puppies are just like children. They need a regular schedule, specific feeding times, and consistency with everything you do with them. And if you take your role seriously with raising your puppy, just the same as you would your child, you can enjoy moving beyond basic behavior and obedience lessons. Make it a goal to take your puppy and raise him to be a highly trained, well mannered adult dog, one that anyone would love to brag about.

Going back to the discussion of his breed type, your puppy has a bloodline that spans generation after generation of specific breed behaviors, characteristics, and personality. While no two dogs in the same breed are like, their are always characteristics that one solid through the breed.

Learn about these characteristics of your puppy's breed and take advantage of his strong points. Is your dog a Greyhound? Then be sure to have plenty of time running with him. Do you own a Golden Retriever? Then spend plenty of time playing fetching games, especially in the water.

And finally, many dog owners find great pleasure in advanced obedience training with their pets, both at home and with a professional dog trainer. Basic obedience lessons are definitely needed just to raise the standard domesticated puppy, but advanced training can bring the absolute best out of any dog, especially young, amiable puppies.
